East Limerick Children Services CDNT is operated in partnership between HSE and Avista as lead agency. The East Limerick CDNT provides specialist disability services to children who are at risk of or developing a disability, have a disability and present with complex developmental delays. The service caters for children and their families who live in the Community Health Network Area 5 within Community Health Organisation 3, which comprises of some areas of North Tipperary, East Clare and North East City & County Limerick.

The interdisciplinary services approach is child and family centred and is offered across a range of settings which may include the centre, home, school and preschool settings as appropriate.

Family Centred Practice involves and bases all interventions on goals that are developed in collaboration with parents and carers to support their child in participating fully in society. Based on priorities and goals, strategies for home and team interventions are set out in an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

The team strives to deliver an interdisciplinary service in line with the Progressing Disability National Policy which consists of 12 Principles:

These twelve principles are the foundation for the type of service that CDNTs will provide. They were developed by the National Children’s Programme Oversight Group, based on evidence and consultation with clinicians and parents.
